The ECDL is for anyone who wants to improve their basic computer skills and gain a recognized qualification at the same time. Many leading business and organisations have recognized the benefits of using the ECDL syllabus as the standard benchmark for IT literacy in the workplace. Having an ECDL on your CV could enhance your chances of gaining employment or advancement. The ECDL has opened doors for literally thousand of people across Europe.

Studying

The ECDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, their practical application and every day use. The syllabus is divided into seven individual modules. Each module can be studied and tested independently, and in any order, but all modules must be passed within a 3 year period before an ECDL certificate can be awarded.

The ECDL can be studied at home or by attending a BCS registered Study Centre. If you choose to study at home you will need access to a suitable computer and a good ECDL study book. You will need to attend a study center to register with the British Computer Society (BCS) and to take the tests for each module.

Proof of study and successfully completion of each test is recorded in a logbook issued by the British Computer Society (BCS). A log book can be obtained direct from the BCS, an ECDL Study Centre or BCS licensed ECDL Tester-Administrator. Visit the BCS web site to find the location of your nearest Study Centre.

When all 7 modules have been passed, the logbook is exchanged for a certificate and ECDL 'licence' card.
